Description

Brisa EnZo Necker Knife with Sheath, Curly Birch (Scandi Grind)

This is a completed knife with leather sheath, and not a kit.

This knife consists of

  • High quality EnZo Necker 70 blade, Scandi Grind
  • Handle is in Curly Birch
  • Brass lanyard tube and corby bolt fittings
  • Leather thong and reindeer antler button for lanyard
  • Leather sheath

The "Necker" blade from Brisa EnZo is a short, sharp blade aimed at carrying around the neck or in a backpack, as opposed to belt carry.

The blade is about 3.2 mm thick, about 22 mm wide and has about 70 mm of blade, total length 160 mm.

The blade is in Swedish 12c27 Stainless Steel with satin finish, combining with the EnZo build quality and attention to fit and finish, into a high-quality knife. The blade has a scandi grind, ideal for whittling and cutting. The short, sharp blade gives good control in a small package.

The handle scales are in arctic Curly Birch, a pale Scandinavian hardwood, traditionally used in knife handles for the unique look. The twisted grains give a burl like character, while the wood is structurally sound and solid, without the potential issues of burl cracking.

The knife comes with a leather sheath in thick, rich Spanish leather.

The knife is by the Finnish brand Brisa who owns "EnZo" and now are rebranding EnZo to Brisa products.

    Small but brilliant

I must confess up front that I am an ENZO fan, have several of their fixed blades in carbon steel but this is the first in stainless.
I was surprised at first how small the Necker was, but once I began to handle it and cut and carve wood with it I became convinced that it is exactly the right size. I have a broad hand but the handle feels good and tight.
The blade comes really sharply ground from the factory and I only gave it a strop on white polishing paste for a razor sharpness. The scandi grind is a very easy grind pattern to maintain.
The 12C27 steel also used in Mora Stainless blades is well established as a very reliable steel for cutting of hard material like timber and soft material such as meat and tendon.
I've tested the blade on mountain ash which is pretty tough and with pronounced hard annular rings, it cuts thin shavings easily, I found the short blade extremely well suited to precise and fine carving in timber.
I cut up a couple of kgs of gravy beef for a stew with it and this meat is riddled with gristle, but the blade was fine with it.
The heavy duty leather sheath is of an excellent standard and build quality, and holds the knife quite securely.
Highly recommend this knife - the curly birch scales feel really comfortable in the hand whether wet or dry.
