Description

Mora Knife Making Kit

Make your own custom knife with a classic scandi blade from Mora.

The kit consists of

  • Mora Carbon Steel blade, 75 mm blade (or Mora 95 mm for +$3)
  • Metal bolster R24, Nickel Silver or Brass
  • Vulcanised fibre spacer inlay, see options for colours
  • Solid wood knife handle block in Silver Birch (see options for other woods)

This is a classic Scandinavian knife kit, and can be completed with simple hand tools.

Customize the kit by selecting the handle material, spacer material and any optional add-ons.

Note that the bolster and tang will need filing before it will fit, like on all our Scandi knife kits.

To complete this kit you will need to

  • fit the bolster to the tang, with a file or dremel
  • cut the tang to size, with a file, hacksaw or dremel
  • cut off a piece of the spacer material and drill a hole for the tang (knife and cordless drill)
  • drill a hole in the wooden block for the tang (cordless drill)
  • glue blade, bolster, spacer and wood together with epoxy glue
  • shape the handle with a rasp, belt sander, or knife
  • Smooth the handle with sand paper
  • Optional finish: seal the handle with oil, wax or varnish

    Mora knife kit

Posted by Sean on 5th Aug 2020

Great kit, very happy with it. The supplied curly birch handle block was high quality, beautiful piece of wood. It came up great after a coat of linseed oil. The Mora blade was shaving sharp as supplied. Arrived quickly after purchase, communication from the vendor was very good. This was my first time putting together a knife, I found it fun and enjoyable and not very hard to do with basic tools. If you would like to have a look at the finished knife and some steps along the way of making it you can check my Instagram profile @pigtheprado.

This was a great kit for a first timer, I managed to get the knife knocked out on a long weekend and the result was a great little Mora that is truely mine with great character.
