Description

The Sensei Tanto Kit

Fulltang, strong blade with steel bolsters in Japanese style.
Blade in 440C Stainless Steel is 165 mm long, 28 mm wide and 4.7 mm thick with hollow-ground bevels and a strong tip in traditional Japanese style.

The kit comes with these parts:

  • Sensei Tanto Blade
  • Handle Scales in Curly Birch, Super Grade (see Options for other scales)
  • 1/8" Pin stock in brass, steel or copper for the handle
  • Vulcanised spacers for between blade and handle scales

The Sensei Tanto is a great Japanese-style fixed blade knife kit design at 11 inches in overall length. It has a 6-1/2 inch blade, which is 1-1/8 inches wide. It is just under 3/16" thick with a wicked hollow grind. The finish is a premium satin finish. This design includes (2) 3/16” diameter holes for 3/16 handle pinstock. It  comes standard with engravable 416 stainless steel bolsters and bolster pins. Handle fasteners or pins are optional.

For handle construction, use any of our 3/16” diameter rod (SS or Brass below) for pins, also see "Mosaic pins". This design can also be cord wrapped for a traditional look.

    I'm not sure about this kit, over all, the finish on the parts is great, fitting it together is another thing. The pins don't fit because the holes don't line up well and the bolsters don't sit exactly flat against the blade..making it so that when you peen the pins it leaves that dreaded half moon effect. Very sharp, nicely finished, not for beginners.
