Description
Northern Silky Oak block
These are the most popular spoon carving blanks used in our spoon carving workshops, from Northern Silky Oak from Queensland.
These have striking patterns across the grains that are visible before sanding and oiling but BOY do they pop when oiled!
The dimensions are appox 300 x 70 x 25 mm per block with the handle bit roughly 40 x 200 mm, the head section about 100 mm long. All dimensions plus minus 5 mm.
Northern Silky Oak is a medium-density wood, hard enough to make a useful serving spoon and soft enough to enable first-time makers to carve it by hand.
Note the size is for a large kitchen serving spoon or for splitting into two smaller or more narrower spoons.
