Bolster R44, Brass

A bolster is like a thin guard, a front section between blade and handle materials on stick tang knives.

This is a big version, the R44 that comes in either brass or nickel silver, see options.

Note how big this bolster is, it is not for the "normal" Polar blades of about 90 mm length but for the bigger blades.

The bolster is about 44 x 24 mm and 3 mm thick, with a slit of 3 x 25 mm cut out.

These are stamped out and most blade/bolster combinations will need some work to fit together.

Filing the sides of the blade tang using a hand file or dremel is a good way to get a tigth fit.

Often the face of the bolster is sanded flat on a piece of glass or tile, then sanded to the wanted finish before being attached to the blade.

This is a lot easier than trying to sand it with the blade in.
