Description

Fiebing's Pro Leather Dye, 4oz

Alcohol based dye for veg tanned leather, 4 oz (118 ml) bottle. Perfect for dying leather work like knife sheaths. Leather can be dyed at any stage of the sheath making process. We like to dye the leather before sewing the sheath while many prefer to dye after the sheath is completed.

There are 3 versions of dye from Fiebing's. This is the best one in our opinion and therefore the only one we stock at Nordic Edge. This is the one we use ourselves on sheaths and other leather projects. Being oil based it does not dry out the leather as much as the "non-Pro" series from Fiebing's and the water one is not as good, more for institutions where alcohol-based dyes are not suitable.

Fiebing Pro Dye:

"An improved version of our traditional leather dye. Pro Dye is also an alcohol based dye created specifically for natural strap leather, vegetable tanned leather and bag & case leather.

Excellent coverage and superior colorfastness."

Apply in layers until happy with the darkness of colour and let dry overnight before buffing with a t-shirt or sheepshin, and applying resolene or tan kote.

The "Pro" series is the version from Fiebing's often preferred by professional leathermakers due to more even coverage and colourfastness.

Leather dye is also used to highlight the grains of wood, by applying a dark leather dye and sanding it mostly off before applying a yellow or light coloured dye and sanding lightly. Works best on burls and other woods with twisted grains, like Curly Birch.

Where to buy leather dye? At Nordic Edge of course :)

This is an alcohol based dye which means it soaks into your leather which helps to produce a very even colour change. Very easy to use. I have tried water based dyes but this gives a superior finish.
