The Ulu or "Uluaq" blade is an ancient blade style from the Alaskan Native peoples, originally made from polished slate stone. The function was a kitchen knife, for skinning and dividing fish, chopping and cutting food stuffs as part of preparing food for the family. Often with bone or antler handle, these are traced back at least 5000 years. (source "The Physics of an Uluaq" by Deanna Strunk: LINK)
