Description
Zebrawood Handle Block (Zebrano)
Zebrawood or Zebrano is named after it's stripes, when first imported to Europe it brought associations of zebras.
Popular with furniture makers in times gone by, Zebrano is a striking material for knife handles and wood working.
The colour can vary from quite light to dark almost walnutty in sections.
These pieces look somewhere between oak and walnut in colour, with alternating light and dark stripes in the cross section. The blocks are cut with the long side being the outside of the trunk, to reveal the darker stripes during shaping.
A medium weight wood with interlocking coarse grains that require some care to avoid tear-outs, these scales are dry and ready for use, a solid block of about 26 x 40 x 140 mm or slightly larger.
If Wenge had a blonde love child, Zebrano would be it.
