Another good way to use a file guide - by Ian Stewart
Reposting some photos by Ian Stewart showing how he uses his carbide file guide to cut guard notches in heat treated blades. Ian is commenting that this can be done before heat treat, but to avoid creating stress raisers for the quench, he has started doing these post heat-treatment.
Ian uses a grinder with cut-off wheel, and the file guide to accurately cut these in without going past his scribed lines for the guard.
Ian is currently working on some knives for the Sydney Knife Show in August 2019.
