Description
Carbide Faced File Guide, Stainless Steel – V7
The original screw-down carbide file guide — now updated in the latest improved version: V7 (replaces V6).
Want a faster way to get perfectly even bevels when grinding blades?
Need dead-square, matching shoulders for clean stick-tang to guard/bolster fit-up?
This file guide clamps the blade securely so you can grind or file precisely to your marked line for even bevels, matching plunge lines, and accurate fit-ups.
Key features
- Screw-down tungsten carbide faces (approx. HRC 78) to guide filing/grinding precisely to your line
- Carbides are adjustable sideways to open/close the gap if your blade isn’t perfectly parallel
- NEW on V7: bolts with aluminium disc faces to secure already-ground blades even better
- NEW on V7: set screws apply sideways pressure for extra grip on wedge-shaped (already ground) blades
- Non-magnetic stainless steel – steel dust doesn’t stick
- Stainless construction – won’t rust (even with water dunking during grinding)
- All screws recessed for easy access on a flat platen
- Hardened steel guide pins for sturdier construction and less chance of jamming
- Nordic Edge logo laser-etched on one side
Specifications
- Max blade width: 70 mm (2.75")
- Max thickness (blade/guard stack): 25 mm (1")
- Carbide thickness: 3.9 mm (replaceable if required)
How to use
Clamp the blade between the jaws, then file or grind both sides knowing your bevels start dead even, and stick tang shoulders are square and matching for clean bolster/guard fit.
V7 tip (extra grip):
- Clamp the blade as normal
- Tighten the side set screws to apply sideways pressure
This helps grip blades that are already ground (often slightly wedge-shaped) more securely.
Belt & carbide care (important)
The carbide faces are extremely hard, but ceramic belts can and will damage carbide.
Best for hand files, or grinder use with standard aluminium oxide belts. In our shop we use ceramic/Cubitron until we’re about 1–2 mm off the carbides, then switch to a 180-grit aluminium oxide belt to finish.
What’s included
Supplied in a custom box with the required Allen keys and tapped for the bench vice attachment.
Note: This is a precision hand tool and can feel tight the first few uses. Tighten firmly and evenly and let the guide pins do their job.
