Hairy Oak (Allocasuarina inophloia) is a distinctive Australian native hardwood known for its rich reddish-brown colouring and beautiful natural grain. Its prominent medullary rays create attractive flecked patterns that make each finished knife handle unique.

Working and Finishing
Hairy Oak can be shaped, drilled and sanded using standard woodworking tools. Its distinctive grain can occasionally cause tear-out, so sharp tools and careful cutting are recommended.
For knife handles, prepare the bonding surfaces before applying a suitable epoxy adhesive and securing the scales with pins or bolts.
Sand progressively through finer grits to bring out the natural grain. A suitable oil, wax or clear timber finish can enhance the rich reddish-brown colouring and distinctive figure.
Natural Timber Variation
Each pair is unique. Colour, grain and figure will vary naturally between sets. As these are bookmatched scales, the two pieces in each pair have been cut to provide complementary grain patterns.
Dimensions are approximate and allow for shaping and final sanding.
Please note: Price is for one bookmatched pair of Hairy Oak scales (2 pieces). Photographs showing multiple pairs are for illustration only.
Always use appropriate dust extraction, respiratory protection and eye protection when cutting or sanding timber.
