Huon Pine Handle Scales
Huon Pine is a species native to the wet sout-western corner of Tasmania, the only species in it's genus. The wood is highly prized for its golden yellow colour, fine grain, and natural oils that resist rotting. The chemical giving the timber its unique smell and preservative qualities is methyl eugenol. The unique chemical creating the smell can make the tree resist rotting for centuries, and the high boyancy of the wood has also seen it used in boat building.
Huon Pine is one of the oldest living organisms on the planet, there are trees of the species that have been aged at 3,000 years old.
These are ethically sourced trees from Tasmania, dry and processed to a set of scales about 10 x 40 x 140 mm in size
