Description
River Cooba Handle Scales x 2 (9 x 40 x 115 mm)
River Cooba is an Australian tree in the Acacia family, found in internal Australia around waterways and creeks. The trees can grow to 18-20 meters in height, the trunk about 500 mm in diameter with coarse bark and straight trunks. Cracking and shrinking little while drying, it has been used both green and dry through Australian recent history as a material for everything from fence posts to wooden vessels and artwork. Cooba is a strong timber at 900 kg/m3, compared to for instance radiata pine at about 400 kg/m3.
Woodworkers may recommend sealing Cooba turning and vases not with oil as the wood seems to be able to absorb a high number of layers, but rather to use a wax, resin or polyurethane finish.
This is a set of 2 scales, each rough cut to about 9-10 mm thick, 38-40 mm wide and about 115-120 mm long. They are medium to dark brown in appearance and not sanded or oiled in the photos.

River Cobra Handle Scales
Haven't used them yet but appear to be good. I would prefer if the scales and blocks were a bit longer, 130mm. Gives a bit more scope for the handle profile.
