Description
67-Layer Stainless Damascus San Mai – Half Feather Pattern
Pre-hardened San Mai knife steel with a hard stainless steel core clad on both sides with 67-layer stainless Damascus in a distinctive Half Feather pattern.
The San Mai construction gives you a solid core running through the centre of the billet to form the cutting edge, while the stainless Damascus cladding creates the decorative pattern on the sides of the finished blade.
Supplied already hardened and tempered to approximately 58–60 HRC, this steel is ready for stock-removal knife making without additional heat treatment.
The Half Feather pattern features elongated, flowing lines with a feather-like appearance that becomes more pronounced as the blade is ground, finished and etched.
Cut out your blade profile, grind the bevels, finish to your preferred grit and etch to bring out the contrast in the Damascus cladding. Keep the steel cool while grinding to avoid affecting the existing heat treatment.
