Description
Padouk Wood knife block
Padouk or Padauk is a tropical wood from Central and West Africa, extending from south-western Nigeria to Zaire. Prized for its rich, crimson color and excellent durability, Padauk is an excellent hardwood for cabinetry, tools and knives.
Reddish orange when freshly cut, it matures over time to a bright red with darker red and purple streaks. It is hard, heavy and extremely resistant to rot, and makes one of the most durable hardwoods available. When used in the ground it can last up to 25 years before being affected by rot and termites. It is easily worked, takes an excellent finish and polishes beautifully. When worked it releases a faint, pleasant scent.
The pieces are about 28 x 45 x 110 mm in size.
