Wenge Wood knife block

Wenge is a tropical African wood, consisting of 2 distinct layers.

A hard, black layer and alternating cinnamon colored layers of softer wood.

Wenge is heavy and hard and has been used in everything from buildings, custom guitars, archery bows and flooring due to the unique texture.

Dust from Wenge can be toxic and personal protection equipment like a dust mask should be worn when working it, to avoid irritating lungs or eyes.

 The pieces are about 30 x 40 x 120 mm in size.

 Example of a knife made with Wenge handle, first picture with both layers just sanded.

Second picture shows 3D effect from using a wire brush wheel on a dremel to dig out the softer, tanned wood. The handle was then sealed with oil.
