Description

Blacksmith Rounding Hammer, 3 LBS, Northern Iron Forge

These are hand made in 1045 carbon steel with cold blued head. Head weight is approx 3 LBS or 1.35 kg.

Made on a flypress and finished by hand, each one is numbered and stamped with the logo of the maker.

The handles are in strong spotted gum sanded to a fairly coarse grit for good grip and chard, before being finished with linseed oil.

Nathan from Northern Iron Forge in Queensland stand behind every hammer, this is a tool that should serve you well for years to come.

Rounding hammer:

Rounding hammers are a popular style with many blacksmiths as a "hammer that can do it all". The hammer has a wide rounded face on one side and a flat face on the other. The wide rounded face can be angled, and smiths using this style often prefer angling the head of the hammer rather than swapping for specialised straight or cross peening hammers. For expert demonstrations of this hammer style, look up Alex Steele or Brian Brazeal on youtube.  Alex Steele uses a 3.5 lbs rounding hammer, for most makers a 2-2.5 lbs hammer is a better all-around size in our experience. This one has a head weight of about 3 lbs with a long handle.
