Description

Hofi Style Hammer, 2.5 LBS, Northern Iron Forge

These are hand made in 1045 carbon steel with cold blued head. Head weight is approx 2.5 LBS or 1.1 kg and embedded in sikaflex to reduce vibration transferred to the hammer hand.

Made on a flypress and finished by hand, each one is numbered and stamped with the logo of the Australian maker.

The handles are in strong spotted gum sanded to a fairly coarse grit for good grip and chard, before being finished with linseed oil.

Nathan from Northern Iron Forge in Queensland stand behind every hammer, this is a tool that should serve you well for years to come.

Hofi Style hammer:

Master Blacksmith Uri Hofi from Israel was the man behind the Hofi Hammer and the "Hofi Ergonomic Technique for Moving Metal".

The Hofi hammer technique was made famous by Hofi demonstrating across the world how he at over 50 years old, could move more metal in a shorter amount of time than most any other blacksmith - and do it all day, every day - without creating injuries.

His technique revolves around a different grip on the hammer and a different stand by the anvil compared to what most blacksmiths will be used to, as well as his type of hammer of course. In reality the hammer's only special points are the mass being balanced on the handle in a way it can be tilted and used as a peen without the hammer blow deflecting to the side, and how the handle is embedded in sikaflex inside the eye to remove some vibration.

The combined result of the hammer and "ergonomic hammer technique" is said to reduce or remove the common issues with injuries especially in the elbow and forearm from years of hand forging.

Here is an article with more details about the Hofi ergonomic hammering technique and how it reduces strain on the hammer arm: LINK

It's a little different to hammers I've used in the past but I'm enjoying using it and it does what its intended to do.
