Caledonian Oak is a distinctive Australian rainforest hardwood with warm reddish-brown colouring and attractive natural grain. Its decorative figure makes it an excellent choice for custom knife handles, tool handles and smaller woodworking projects.

Also known as Caledonian Silky Oak, Carnarvonia araliifolia produces interesting grain patterns that can become more pronounced with a suitable finish.

Working and Finishing

Plan your handle design around the natural grain and figure. Shape using sharp woodworking tools, sand progressively through finer grits and apply a suitable oil, wax or other timber finish.

Follow the adhesive manufacturer's preparation instructions when fitting the handle. Testing a finish on an offcut is recommended, as finishes may darken the timber and enhance its grain.

Each block is unique. Colour, grain and figure will vary naturally from the product photographs. Dimensions are approximate and allow for final shaping and sanding.
