Description
A hand-forged dog's head hammer made in Australia by Northern Iron Forge, designed especially for bladesmithing and controlled forging work.
The distinctive forward-weighted dog's head design puts the mass of the hammer over the striking face, making it particularly well suited to controlled, flat blows when forging blades and working hot steel. Dog's head hammers are commonly associated with Japanese-style bladesmithing and are especially useful for blade work and flattening steel.
Each hammer is individually hand forged from 1045 steel and fitted with an Australian Spotted Gum handle. As these are handmade tools, small variations in forging texture, dimensions and weight are part of the character of each hammer.
