Description
Fillet Knife Making Kit – 180 mm Stainless Blade & Blackwood
Make your own full tang fillet knife with this complete knife making kit.
A great project for anyone wanting to build a practical fishing or kitchen knife without having to make and heat treat the blade from scratch. The stainless steel Cocinero fillet blade is supplied sharpened and ready for fitting with your own custom handle.
The blade is thin and flexible, making it ideal for filleting fish, while the Australian Blackwood handle scales give the finished knife a warm, natural timber handle.
The kit includes:
- Spanish Cocinero 180 mm stainless steel fillet blade
- Set of 2 Australian Blackwood knife handle scales, approx. 145 × 40 × 10 mm each
- Black 0.8 mm vulcanised fibre spacer material
- 1/8" stainless steel pin stock for the three handle pins
About the blade
The Cocinero is a thin, flexible full tang fillet blade made from stainless X50CrMoV15 steel. It has three handle pin holes designed to suit 1/8" pins.
Blackwood handle scales
The supplied Blackwood scales are unfinished and oversized so you can shape, sand and finish the handle to your preferred profile. Natural colour and grain will vary between sets.
To complete the knife you will need:
- Epoxy suitable for knife handles
- Drill and drill bits
- Files, rasp or belt sander for shaping
- Sandpaper
- A suitable oil, wax or other timber finish
Some basic tools and knife making experience are recommended. The blade is already sharpened, so care should be taken when assembling and shaping the handle.
