Polar 95 Carbon Steel Blade – Hammered Finish
A classic Scandinavian all-round knife blade, the Polar 95 Hammered is a versatile carbon steel blade suitable for general knife making, camp knives, and utility blades.
Manufactured in Finland, this blade is made from 80CrV2 carbon steel, offering excellent edge retention while remaining easy to sharpen. The blade comes pre-shaped and heat treated, ready for handle fitting.
The hammered surface gives the blade a traditional forged appearance. These hammer marks become more visible if the black scale is removed, for example by soaking the blade in vinegar overnight and then lightly sanding the surface (see example image).

The tang can be trimmed to suit the handle design.
Important fitting notes
Polar blade blanks are stamped, which helps keep the cost down. As a result, light filing of the tang and shoulders may be required before fitting a bolster.
For a matching bolster, we recommend the R30 Extended bolster.
Care instructions
As with all carbon steel blades:
- Do not leave the blade wet
- Dry thoroughly after use
- Oil lightly to prevent rust

Versatile Tough design
Bought this with a brass bolster, excellent blade steel, did need a sharpen out of the box, but grind was even and consistent. Has a rough mill finish on spine, which is easy to grind flat or leave as is, if you wish to use the spine to strike on flint for fire starting. Thicker than Mora, and blade geometry gives you a long slender point as it is not a drop point. The longer thinner point and acute angled scandi grind is excellent for detail carving and gouging thin holes/slots in woodcarving, better than your standard Moras for this function. Easy to sharpen steel, 80CrV2 holds edge well, 1080 on steroids, chromium, vanadium and manganese traces make it that bit tougher. For the price, a good knife project, with a blade that is that little bit different to a Mora in a good way - not knocking Moras - love them, but this is an excellent blade to add to your collection. Hafted mine to a section of 40mm x 40mm Red Gum garden stake - nice.
