1084 High Carbon Steel PRE-HARDENED and TEMPERED, ready to be ground into blades.
Approx 56-60 HRC
1084 is a very popular high carbon steel with knife makers.
These will be difficult to drill due to be being heat treated already - we recommend stick tang blades from these.
Hardened steel can be drilled with difficulty, some swear by ARTU drill bits and some by masonary or glass drill bits. We simply try not to drill it.
As with all grinding hardened steel, keep it cool by regularly dipping in water. Do not overheat as this will affect the tempering (if you now heat this steel over tempering temps it will become softer)
