3M Cubitron II Abrasive Belts 984F

Cubitron II is a new advanced belt technology from 3M that outlasts ceramic belts. 

Man-made small minerals of combined ceramic and alu oxide particles are pressed into cubitron particles, creating a longer-lasting and more even-wearing belt than simpler ceramic-only belts.

This is the 984F - the model we recommend for machine fed grinding - due to more abrasive concentration than the less expensive 767F that requires less pressure to get full belt life.

For most knifemakers we recommend the 767F over the 984F as it is more cost-effective for hand grinding (applying force by hand, as opposed to a machine-fed grinder used in the production industry)

The reason these Cubitron II belts are taking over for ceramic belts are:

• longer lasting by using "pyramids" of small particles rather than larger, single ceramic particles
• more even finish by slowly wearing down pyramics of even grain size as opposed to uneven ceramic particles being resharpened or dulled, eventually  ripped off the belt as the belt wears down
