Description
Variable Speed Disc Grinder, 1 hp
Want to save time on hand sanding?
Want to get much more control of handle shaping, grinding to exact lines?
The Disc Grinder from 84Engineering is your friend.
The ability to use slow speed, tool rest, this is a completely different level of control than on a belt grinder.
This thing is amazing. Grinding on the belt grinder you rough grind to the lines drawn with a pencil on the handle, with the disc grinder you grind dead flat - to the lines.
Adding the disc grinder between belt sander and hand sanding would be near the top of a short list of the biggest time saver from a new tool we have seen in our own workshop.
From 84Engineering in Cooma, NSW here is what 84Engineering have to say about it:
"
Take your knife making to the next level with the 84 Engineering precision disc grinder. Disc grinders significantly reduce the hand sanding required to achieve a flat, high-grit finish on your blade bevels. Discs are also great for grinding billets flat or achieving accurate angles and flat faces on your ‘Wa’ style and other angular knife handles.
PRECISION CNC MACHINED DISC
Our 225mm diameter discs are precision CNC machined from billet 6061 Aluminum, ensuring a perfectly flat work face. The Aluminum is lightweight and provides exceptional heat dissipation and rigidity. A 10ᵒ relief on the disc edge makes sanding into tight areas and grinding crisp corners a breeze. The disc is sized so that standard 230x280mm sandpaper / abrasive sheets can be used. We recommend using 3M feathering adhesive or kraft spray adhesive to attach sheet to disc, then trimming the excess.
VARIABLE SPEED
The 84 Engineering disc grinder will plug into any standard 240v 10a power socket. The included Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) converts power to a 3-phase signal, driving the industrial 4-pole motor. The included VFD is tuned specifically for disc grinding and provides maximum torque throughout the programmed safe speed range. The ability to run the disc at low speeds means minimal heat build-up during high-grit finishing and shaping, and the 1440rpm on tap is useful for rapid stock removal and sanding of timber and synthetic handle materials.
FULLY ADJUSTABLE REST
The 230x120 powder-coated work rest is both angle and height adjustable. The premium indexing handles lock the rest securely at any angle ensuring your grinds will always be accurate and repeatable. Depending on the application, the ability to adjust the height of the rest makes for safer grinding and better abrasive utilisation.
