Description
Curly Birch Wood Knife Scales – Super Grade (Set of 2)
Curly birch is a pale hardwood that grows only in a narrow, cold northern band across Scandinavia and parts of Russia.
The term “curly” refers to the twisted, rippled grain structure that gives this timber its distinctive visual depth and movement.
Despite the dramatic figure, curly birch has a solid texture and is easy to work. The twisted grain does not mean it will crack or split easily, making it an excellent choice for knife handles and other fine craft projects.
Traditionally, curly birch has been considered an exclusive material and is often used for knife handles and other high-end “show” pieces.
Grades Explained
Curly birch is available in three grades, based on the amount of figure and grain movement in the wood:
- Standard Grade – more white birch with lighter figure
- Super Grade – strong curl and visual movement
- Extreme Grade – heavy figure with darker curly grain, colour variation, and natural imperfections
Each grade produces a beautiful result once sanded and sealed. Choosing a grade comes down to how much figure and contrast you prefer in the finished handle.
This listing is for the Super Grade, featuring pronounced curl and strong visual character.
