Nordic Puuko in Traditional Materials
Really happy with the latest Nordic knives, especially the handle shape on the Curly Birch Puuko is something I want to try to copy the feel of:http://creativeman.com.au/curly-birch-puuko-ahti-janka-75/ The handle is in curly birch, not a very highly figured grade but still attractive. The comfortable handle shape, and a short sharp blade with scandi grind and brass bolster gives a solid feel in the hand. I think I will try to aim for this handle shape in some of my stick tangs next.

Reindeer and Birch Puuko with Carbon Steel Blade
Reindeer antler is often used in knife handles in Scandinavia, in the northern regions across Norway, Sweden and Finland. Dense and heavy with little marrow, the antler pieces are either used as full handle rolls, or as smaller sections within wooden handles. As opposed to stag antler handles, reindeer handles are generally ground to shape, showing the paler inside of the antler. http://creativeman.com.au/kauhava-reindeer-and-curly-birch-knife-95/ Hand made in Finland, this puuko

Great article about Karim of Tharwa Valley Forge, not only is he a great knife maker and teacher but also gets a kick out of making things grow. Harvesting their own fruit and vegetables and taking as much joy from seeing things come to life in the garden as in the forge.http://www.goodfood.com.au/good-food/inside-tharwa-knifemaker-karim-haddads-garden-20160512-gosvkq.htmllink to article on Goodfood.com.au

How to make a pouch style leather knife sheath
Pouch style leather knife sheathThis guide is for completing the Pouch Style Sheath Kit in US vegetable tanned leather ,but can be completed in most any leather by using the below images as a guide to cutting out the pieces required. This sheath kit is made in 8-9 oz vegetable tanned leather (3.2-3.6 mm thick), which is good for tooling and provides a solid and good looking result.The pouch sheath is a wrap-around style sheath where the knife tends to sit deep in the sheath. The sheath kit cons

Making a wooden insert in a Scandi leather sheath
Scandi leather sheaths are made with half-tanned leather.This leather has a core of rawhide, making it stiffer and less pliable when dry.The leather is wetted and then sown around the knife, creating a tight fit.When the leather is dry, the rawhide core makes it stiff and rigid, holding the knife securely in place by friction alone.If wanting to make a wooden insert for the scandi sheath, this is one way to do it;
Mark the profile of the blade onto a piece of wood. In this case thin pine from B
