Ceramic VSM Abrasive Belts (For Steel)

Premium VSM Ceramic Grinding Belts for Knife Steel 

Premium, long-lasting ceramic grinding belts with German ceramic abrasives on stiff polyester cloth backing. For both wet and dry grinding.

For rough grinding knife blade profiles and bevels, Ceramic abrasive belts used to be the premium belts for steel and are still the preferred belts by many makers for grinding hardened steel. (At Nordic Edge we have moved across to the 3M Cubitron belts but these are still good belts)

Dimensions are 2" x 48" (50 x 1220 mm) or 2 x 72" (50 x 1830 mm) , these belts are for steel and hard metals where the ceramic grains can be worn away to self-sharpen.

Grit choice: 36 grit is very rough for quick stock removal, 60 grit is the default belt for knife grinding, followed by clean-up at 120 grit.

Comparison to other belts:

If wanting to be able to slow down on 120 grit to blend more, consider the 3M Cubitron belts that grind better, are cheaper in bulk, and does not need to be run as hard as the Ceramic belts. 

Ceramic belts are much longer lasting than Aluminum Oxide, a power house for removing metal before moving onto Alu Oxide, Trizact or J-flex (soft-backed alu oxides) to clean up.

Pro tip:

Using these on handle materials or on slow speed will dull/glaze them rather than than sharpen, requiring hard grinding on a scrap piece of steel to recover. So run these at full speed only!
