Sourced from the USA, maple burl features a pale colour and dramatic, twisted grain patterns caused by natural outgrowths in the tree. The result is a wood that’s both visually striking and easy to work with.

Each set varies in colour and figure due to the natural formation of burl. Some scales may have small inclusions or holes, which can be filled with super glue. As with all natural wooden scales, minor movement from air moisture is possible, and sanding flat before use is recommended.

Maple is especially popular among makers who stabilise their own materials. The pale, open-grain structure takes dyes exceptionally well when used with stabilising resins like Resinex or Cactus Juice – enhancing both colour and figure.
