AUS-10, also sold as CJ-A10, is a high-carbon stainless steel made by Sanwa Special Steel. Often compared with VG10 or 440C, it is a good choice for kitchen knives and other premium stainless blades.
Why use AUS-10 with stainless damascus cladding?
- stainless core with good edge retention
- damascus cladding for visual contrast after etching
- suitable for stock removal knife making
- great for chef knives and other fine stainless builds
Approx size: 3 x 50 x 600 mm
Approx weight: 750 g
Heat treatment:
- Wrap in stainless steel foil to reduce carbon loss from the long hold time
- Austenitise at 1060 C for 30 minutes
- Quench in oil or between aluminium quench plates
- Temper at 175 C for 2 hours, 2 times
- Approx hardness after tempering: 60 HRC
AUS-10 / CJ-A10 is a high-carbon stainless steel with approximately 0.95 to 1.10% carbon and 13 to 14% chromium.
