Description
Stainless steel Damascus billet in X-pattern, sized 3 x 50 x 330mm.
Made from two stainless steels, 9Cr18MoV and 10Cr15CoMoV, this billet is fully hardened and tempered to approximately 58–60 HRC and is intended for stock removal knife making.
With roughly 110 layers, this billet produces a striking X-pattern finish that stands out beautifully once etched and finished.
Important notes:
- Pre-hardened and tempered
- Approx. 58–60 HRC
- Approx. 110 layers
- Designed for stock removal knife making
- Difficult to drill due to hardness
- Must be kept cool during grinding to avoid damaging the temper
- Stainless Damascus can be more difficult to etch than carbon Damascus, so some experimentation may be required
- Ferric chloride may work for etching; if not, a more aggressive option such as warm hydrochloric acid may be needed
- Re-heat treating and forging are not recommended
This billet is a great choice for makers wanting a bold stainless Damascus pattern in a ready-hardened format.
