Description

Takefu 20 Layer Carbon Damascus Clad V-Toku2 Japanese Carbon Steel

Takefu V-Toku2 20 Layer is an exceptional Japanese laminated knife steel combining a high-carbon V-Toku2 core with 20-layer carbon damascus cladding on each side in 3.8 x 50 x 600 mm.

The V-Toku2 core provides the hardened cutting edge, while the carbon Damascus cladding creates the distinctive layered pattern across the sides of the finished blade.

This steel is particularly well suited to makers who want the performance and character of Japanese V-Toku2 carbon steel combined with a traditional Damascus appearance.

The carbon Damascus cladding can also be hammer textured before heat treatment to develop a more dramatic pattern in the finished blade. Etching in Ferric Chloride brings out the contrast between the V-Toku2 edge and the layered cladding, coffee etch can also be used to increase the contrast.

Steel construction: V-Toku2 carbon steel core with 20-layer carbon Damascus cladding

Note: Our recommended recipe (oil quench, 180C temper) will give a more robust blade than the "real" Japanese recipe of water quench and min 120 C tempering for 65 HRC - as most Australian makers will prefer the slightly tougher, less hard version. Please consider "our version" what we do at Nordic Edge and a place to start experimenting with your own process and not the final word on this.

Ideal for: chef knives, Japanese-style kitchen knives, custom knives and Damascus knife projects.

The photo is showing example of a completed knife in this steel - the product is a steel bar and not a knife.
