Description
Black limba is a tropical hardwood from West Africa. When the timber displays dark streaks and veins through the lighter base colour, it is commonly referred to as Black Limba.
It is prized for its excellent workability, attractive colour, and the way it takes a finish. Limba has been used in furniture, table tennis blades, and musical instruments — including well-known korina guitar bodies — due to its stability and visual character.
Colour varies from light yellowish to golden brown, often with grey to nearly black streaks. The grain is typically straight to slightly interlocked, sometimes wavy, producing attractive natural figure with a moderately coarse but even texture.
Black limba machines well with hand and power tools, glues and finishes well, and is a pleasure to work compared to many dense exotic hardwoods.
This timber is less commonly seen in ready-made knife handles, but is popular with makers who value workability and distinctive appearance.
Each block measures 120 × 40 × 30 mm.
Minor variation in width or thickness may occur due to natural material and processing.
