Description

Knifemakers Home Heat Treating Recipes, by Stacy Hall

Booklet of heat treatment recipes of the most common and quite a few not so common knife making steels used in Australia.

Stacy Hall of SLH Blades is a skilled knife maker and member of the Australian Knifemakers Guild from country Victoria, making high quality knives and also holding workshops for both beginner and more advanced makers.

This is a hobby project of Stacy's, collecting proven heat treat recipes of steel types used in knife making, both carbon and stainless steels.

The recipes are collected in a booklet for handy reference when looking up a steel type.

I think a glossary of terms would be great for those that know little about the subject.

If you dismiss this guide because it is not a comprehensive encyclopaedia of heat treating, you are missing the point. There are several factors that make this a great resource for Australian makers. First, the research is relevant. It has been put together by an Aussie maker with the same local suppliers as the rest of us. This means that the steels included are all relevant. Secondly, it is spiral bound and leaves room for your own notes. This sounds trivial but is actually very handy. Thirdly, you are supporting two australian businesses that support our community. You are paying for the R&D and local relevance more so than the publication itself. More than happy to recommend this to others.
