Description
Go-Mai 1084 x3 / 15N20 x2 billet from Standen Knives.
A laminated carbon steel billet for knife making with 5 layers total:
- 3 layers of 1084
- 2 layers of 15N20
Supplied as a raw billet for makers to grind, forge and finish.
The contrast in the layers becomes visible after grinding and etching. 15N20 contains around 2% nickel, which helps resist the etch and leaves brighter layers for contrast. For heat treatment, treat this billet like 1084 carbon steel.
Finished knife shown in the product images for illustration only.
The example knife was made by Hearth-Fire Forge on the Central Coast, NSW, to show the pattern this steel can produce after grinding and etching. Raw billet sold separately.
